Energy Return On Investment (EROI)

Definition
A quantifiable measurement of the amount of energy required to produce a unit of energy output. The EROI will measure the costs of bringing the energy source to its end use. For example, the price of a gallon of gas includes the costs of activities such as exploration, drilling, refining, shipping, storage and distribution in order to determine the return on those costs.
