McFadden Act

Definition
Enacted in 1927 and named after Representative Louis Thomas McFadden, the Act permitted national banks to branch intrastate to the same extent as state-chartered banks were permitted to branch out. Interstate branching was not permitted until 1994 when that portion of this federal law was repealed.
