Wasting Trust

Definition
A qualified retirement plan trust that holds the assets of a frozen qualified plan that is receiving no new contributions but is continuing to distribute payments to plan participants thereby depleting itself. A wasting trust can also apply to estate planning as a trust that is designed to deplete itself through periodic payments to a beneficiary.
