Documents Against Acceptance (D/A)

Definition
A provision in a documentary collection arrangement in which the buyer of goods must accept and sign the bill of exchange prior to receiving the shipping and title documents for those goods. This provision allows the seller or exporter to ensure that the buyer is legally bound to pay the full price for the goods, before ownership is transferred.
