Fee-based Investment

Definition
An investment account that pays advisors a set percentage of the total value of the assets within the portfolio as compensation. This type of percentage compensation is more common among fund managers. It differs from commission-based compensation which is a set dollar amount per trade. Fee-based compensation occurs regardless of the number of trades. The amount of the fee increases when the value of the client's assets increases.
