Working Reserves

Definition
The amount of capital a bank holds on reserve in the form of currency or deposits at other banks that are in excess of the minimum reserve requirement dictated by the Federal Reserve Bank. Banks seek to maintain enough working reserves to provide a margin of safety over minimum reserve requirements while optimizing its interest earning opportunity.
