Negative Authorization

Definition
A bank card transaction authorisation system that checks a bank number against a list of cancelled, lost or stolen card number before the card is issued if the number does not appear on the list. Positive authorization is the opposite of this and it involves checking each request against customer's transaction file before approval. Hence, it is considered a more rigorous process than negative authorization.
