Speculative Gains

Definition
Gains achieved from the buying and selling of securities based on a belief by a large group of traders that a future event or policy change will result in a price spike in one direction or another. For example, currency futures traders may short U.S. dollar contracts in anticipation of the Fed announcing a new round of stimulus which would drive the value of the dollar down.
