Banking Insurance Fund

Definition
A federal fund issued from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), which insures the monies of individuals who invest at banks that are members of the Federal Reserve System. Its members are generally state and national banks. Developed in 1989, the fund's purpose is to divide the monies of commercial banks from the monies of thrift institutions.
