S&P MidCap 400 Index

Definition
An index that measures stock performance of 400 mid-capitalization ($750 million - $3 billion) companies. The index uses a weighted-average calculation to determine the total value, which means the stock prices of companies with larger capitalization have a greater effect on the index movement.
