Targeted Accrual Redemption Note (TARN)

Definition
An investment vehicle that provides a guaranteed total of coupon payments. Once all the payments have been made, the note is redeemed and the holder receives the par value. A TARN performs well in the short term if interest rates decline, but it performs poorly if interest rates rise.
