Investment Holding Company

Definition
A company that derives its revenue from investment income, such as dividends, interest earnings, capital gains, and lease payments, generated through assets held in an investment portfolio. Its principal activities include selecting, acquiring and managing assets, such as stocks, bonds or real estate, for the purpose of maximizing income and capital appreciation. A real estate investment trust (REIT) is an example of an investment holding company.
