Federal legislation which continued to provide middle-class families and businesses with certain tax benefits that had been slated to expire. The legislation provided a $146 billion tax break for middle class individuals and businesses. President Bush signed the act into law on October 4, 2004. Some of the benefits the law provided were: an extension of the Child's Tax Credit, extension of research credit, full marriage penalty relief, and credits for energy efficient products.
