MBS Pool Number
Definition
Method of identifying mortgage backed securities. It is viewed by traders as easier to use than the CUSIP number. The number usually has 6 digits with letters and numbers that identify the issuer, when the security was issued and features of the pool such as the level of diversification, the option of pre-payment, etc. Different issuers of MBS have their own format of creating pool numbers which most traders are able to identify within a short period of time.
