Insurance that provides supplemental income to individuals that have become disabled, but at one time worked and paid FICA taxes. SSDI insurance provides benefits to the disabled party and any dependents (underage children, spouses, etc.). Funds used to pay these benefits are acquired through social security taxes paid by individuals. Similar to social security benefits, SSDI insurance maintains a policy that requires that one must have put something in by paying taxes in order to receive benefits.
