Headline Risk

Definition
The risk that a major event or story will spread throughout various media publications, and will negatively impact a company's stock. The risk is due to the harmful nature of the story, even if the news is not justifiable. For example, news about a corporate scandal at the executive level may apply downward pressure onto a stock, even if there is no truth behind the allegation.
