Mutual Organization

Definition
A company or business owned by a group of members who are stockholders in the company. This is different than a cooperative in that the members of the organization do not directly invest in the organization but offer their services through their individual customer bases. These organizations do not have external shareholders and sometimes are exempt from income tax. Also called mutual company.
