Permit
Definition
1. Legal authorization to conduct an activity; written, verbal, or other permission to perform an action. "During the most busy times of the year, our boss would not permit the employees to take any extra vacation time, because he needed us all at work to make sure everything was done on time."
2. The physical item which grants someone permission to do something. For example, a state-issued driver's license gives the license holder permission to operate a motor vehicle.
