Back-end Load Fund

Definition
A type of mutual fund that charges investors a fee to sell or redeem their shares. This fee often ranges between 4 and 6 percent. The formal name for the back end load is referred to as the contingent deferred sales charge, or the CDSC. A broker's commission is reduced if an investor holds the fund for a longer period of time.
